Does Using A Sitz Bath For Hemorrhoids Help?

The sitz bath has been used to sooth many different irritations but just for this article, I’d like to only discuss it’s use and effectiveness for the treatment of hemorrhoids. I would never be so bold as to say that a sitz bath for hemorrhoids is not useful as a treatment, because anyone who has used one is aware that it brings much needed relief, but it certainly is no cure.

First let me explain what a sitz bath is. The term refers to both the actual bath tub and the act of taking the bath itself. The sitz tub is a small bath just big enough for you to sit in. It is usually filled with hot water, the hotter the better provided you’re not scalding yourself and then you simply sit in the tub and soak your pelvic area for 20 minutes or so a couple times a day. The sitz bath can be used to treat a variety of problems such as helping to heal episiotomies and other female problems but is most known for treating hemorrhoids.

Trying to cure hemorrhoids through the use of a sitz bath is like trying to cure a bad back with pain killers. The symptoms may lessen but the underlying cause does not go away. As far as hemorrhoids are concerned, there can be numerous factors adding to the problem and they must each be dealt with in their own way. If you want to use the sitz bath to relieve the inflammation along the way, go right ahead; but do not think it will get rid of your problem unless your hemorrhoids are caused by a one time event, in which case it’s possible they may clear up on their own.

For the rest of you who suffer from the agony and embarrassment of chronic hemorrhoids, it may be time to look at some other options. Unlike most chronic diseases, hemorrhoids are usually a long term condition that has come about from your own actions. That’s good news because that means that you can make changes that will reverse the condition. Many have permanently rid them selves of the problem already.

So what kind of changes might one expect to have to make? Some can be quite simple, like stopping straining during physical activity and bowel movements. Others, like dietary changes can be a bit more complicated, but still easy to manage. But you need to do something other than using a sitz bath if you hope to cure this permanently. Only treating the symptoms, will not be a cure.

Most people can cure hemorrhoids themselves through natural methods that alleviate hard stools, constipation and difficult bowel movements. Methods that include things like a high fiber diet, but don’t include more ointments and stool softeners. Nobody wants any more of that. Just like no one wants to spend the rest of their life sitting in a sitz bath every day. And you shouldn’t have to.

Hemorrhoid question?

I recently went to the doctor and he explained to me that I have an external hemorrhoids for sure. He had given me a cream and suppository, and told me to let him know if I bled within 5 days of using this medicine. Well I bled twice, but it was more so a streak of blood in the bowel itself which I’ve really never seen before, and a little bright blood on the toilet paper. Now the reason why I saw him is because I became really constipated for a couple of days, and the hemorrhoid just got a lot more swollen, so that’s when I said I need to see a doctor. The cream worked like a charm and shrunk my external one drastically. But until recently there’s been very little blood in the water of the toilet, but some in the feace it self like a streak. Now I am over-weight, and all I do at my job is stand up for hours. What should I do? Is the blood streak in my feace just my hemorrhoid? Could it have been the suppository that caused the bleeding?

Can internal hemorrhoids ever 'go away' or get better?

I’ve had them for years, but due to developing I
BS in my senior years, they really are bothering me more. I’ve kept them under control (so far) with medicated wipes, suppositories, and creams. Some days though, like today, after several trips to the bathroom, they are giving me more discomfort. Then I’ll be ok for several days. Can one just ‘tolerate them’ for life or do they always have to have surgery in time? thanks–yanksgirl
