Are hemorrhoids common after having a baby?

I just had my lil boy two weeks ago, and my doctor put me on stool softeners, but its still pretty painful to go #2, and there is sometimes blood. I have no insurance now ( long story ) so I only want to go to the doc if I absolutely have to, so any thing I can do to fix the problem from home would be helpful. If it continues I know I’ll just go to the doc but I want to try fixing it myself first.

What do you think the problem is, and how can I remedy it?

Very common, I had awful hemorrhoids after I had both kids. The only thing that worked for me was real hot water going over them and dial soap to dry the area up. The tucks pads and the stool softeners did nothing for me. Try running hot water on your butt hole in the shower (as hot as you can stand) and using Dial soap (yes, it has to be Dial) on them, it worked wonders for me, and they were gone in a few days. I know it sounds gross and doesn’t sound like it’ll help, but it definitely worked for me. Just try it, you have nothing to lose.

going # 2, after a pregnancy is HORRIBLE!….it will get better though, i promise…to alleviate the pain after you poo, try buying some of them "tucks", from walmart, it makes you feel alot better…. but you’re body will eventually regulate itself out, it can take up to a month, but it’ll happen, until them, just try raisins/ prune juice / fruit… anything that’ll make you go.. and eventually the more you do it, the softer it’ll get. congrats, and good luck.

yes. that was some serious pushing and straining you had to do. some people just pop a vein or two. i’m so nervous because i’ve escaped the whole problem this pregnancy–all good things come to an end!

thats how i felt for a few weeks after birth it slowly got better. It is such a bummer! i would say just eat things high in fiber because that will naturally make your stool softer too and it will not be as painful. hemmorhoids are very common too. Just take the stool softeners to let that area heal

you need to get a cream from your doctor if it is bad. You can also get some stool softners to help ease the straining.

yes its perfectly normal to have hemeroids, bleeding and pain up to 6 weeks after giving birth vaginaly.
your doctor should have given you some pain medications like oxycodone for pain and 500ml of Ibeprofane a plastic can with wipes for hemeroids and possibly a spray can that is used for scratches if you tore some stuff down there.

just keep track of how much blood is on the pad, if its red or a brownish color (brown is good, lots and lots of red blood is bad, something is still open and bleeding) and and how much you lose when you go to the bathroom.

I had them, but they weren’t super bad. Definitely noticeable, but I didn’t go to the DR for them.
In all honesty, I think that once in a blue moon, they still bother me just a tad. I had to push my son out without contractions- I pushed so hard that I popped many blood vessels in my eyes, and looked as though I had been beaten by someone. I’m laughing in retrospect, but I didn’t think it was funny at the time.

If there is a lot of blood, I would head to the doc. There rarely, can be very treatable complications from hemorrhoids. If there’s just a little (red, not brown, can happen with a hemorrhoid)….then perhaps wait it out (if you’re comfortable with it). The pads and cream didn’t do much for me…so I just sat on pillows and tried to take it as easy as possible.
