Can a baby have a hemorrhoid?

I just changed my baby’s diaper this morning and he had a little blood in his diaper. He doesn’t have a diaper rash or anything. He looked like he might have been constipated because there was some hard poop and then the soft stuff. I didn’t know he was constipated because he is pretty regular and he usually goes once or twice a day.

I will hopefully get him in to see the Doctor this morning, but I want to know what you think. Has this happened to your baby? Is it normal? Should I be really concerned? He just turned a year old. Thanks.

similar thing happened to my friends baby, and it was just due to a constipation – he was just straining so much :( They say constipation is not determined by how often the baby has the bowl movement but by the contents of it…

this is common in babies that are constipated. They dont have hemorrhoids, they just have broken a vessel in there anus. They are new little creatures that havent had to deal with defication like that. SOOO when they have to stretch there little butts for that it will scrape and burst a few capilliaries and vessels. My girl did it too she was constipated all the time.
If its a little amount and bright red, not too much to worry, if its dark brown along with mucousy discharge and very bad smelling then its a doctor visit. BUt to put you mind at ease you can have him in for a check up

Yes they can. It usually happens when they’ve been constipated or have very solid stool. My advice is to have him drink more liquids.
