The over-the-counter creams are usually good temporary relief. other than that, tell her to sit on a cushion and not to sit for long periods of time. She needs to take either stool softener capsules for awhile or make taking a fiber laxative a routine from now on. A fiber laxative is not addictive and is good for you - - - one brand is Citricel- - - - you mix it with cold water a couple of times a day and it tastes like orange Tang (drink it fast, though). A lot of doctors recommend it.

Last, but not least, tell her to go to the GNC store and buy a bottle of Rutin. I'm sure you can buy it either there or online at a vitamin site. I took it years ago and it helped so much. Here's a link to more information on Rutin (a bioflavonoid).

If not too serious, there are some things that will help sooth the imflamation and the discomfort. Tell her to go buy Tucks, use them instead of toilet paper. Buy some prep h as well, and warm baths where she just soaks for 10 mins at a time will help tremendously. If they persist for more than a week, she really should go see a specialist. Also, a high fiber diet will help her not to "strain", I recommend metamucil taken daily, they come in pill form, and tell her apples, fiber rich cereals, and dehydrated fruit help as well. It's not a comfortable thing or conversation, but happens to a lot of people, new mothers, or not!
