There is one other reason for hemorrhoids and pregnancy. During pregnancy the body releases a hormone which relaxes the circular walls which in turn causes spider veins, varicose veins and also hemorrhoids which is basically just another inflamed vein albeit in a terrible location. I was born and raised in Europe where diosmin, a flavonoid from oranges, is a Rx drug for hemorrhoids even though it is a natural compound (this way it is reimbursed by the insurance). European physician have done tests in pregnant women with this flavonoid diosmin and it has been found to be safe in pregnant and nursing women. Typically the hemorrhoids are cured within 4-6 weeks. Diosmin is available in the US in many supplements. After we moved to the US my wife started using a product called "inVisible Veins" after her pregnancy to get rid of the spider veins she had developed.
