How do I get my external hemorrhoid to shrink?

I have had this external hemorrhoid for almost two weeks now. I tried everything I could do at home ( ice, witch hazel, prep H etc…) then went to the doctor on day four. He didn’t even look instead just gave me a prescription for anusol with hydrocortisone. If took the pain away and the bleeding stopped and it even shrunk down a bit (was the size of a small grape , is now the size of the eraser on the end of a pencil) but I am wondering exactly how long before it goes away? It is embarassing and the hydrocortisone has left the crack of my bum burnt and irritated.
Before you go giving me diet tips I have not been constipated I got the hemorrhoid from the pressure of my uterus because I am 40 weeks pregnant and carrying an estimated ten lb baby around. I get a ton of fiber and eat well I don’t need diet help thanks.
Should I continue the prescribed cream or go back to the doctor? Does it really take longer than this to get rid of a hemorrhoid? Do some hemorrhoids require surgery to get them to go away? If it doesn’t go away completely soon I am afraid that when I am in labor the strain of pushing will make it flare up again???
Thanks in advance
A hemorrhoidectomy? What is that? I will be giving birth to my daughter in the next day to two weeks it would not be possible to have surgery….

Continue with the cream. The hemorrhoid may continue to shrink, but it can take time. If the hydrocortison component is bothering you, there are other prescription creams available that do not contain it, so ask your doc for a different prescription.

If the hemorrhoid continues to bother you and/ or isn’t going away as fast as you’d like, contact your doctor. You may have to have a hemorrhoidectomy.

Of course you cannot and should not have a hemorrhoidectomy until you have delivered, but some pregnancy related hemorrhoids do not go away. If they become bothersome and the symptoms are not relieved with conservative treatment, you may elect to have surgery to remove it/them (that is a hemorrhoidectomy).

Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to have a reasonable chance of resolving until you deliver. However the treatment you’re receiving sounds reasonable and there has been some response. Again, if the cortisone component in the Anusol is causing problems, ask your doctor for a cortisone-free preparation (they are available) to at least keep it from becoming worse.

go to different doctor. the first user is right you might have to have a hemorhoidectomy. its an out patient procedure where hemmorhoid is removed. the are not going to have to cut you open. if anything since hemmorhoid isnt bothering you you could wait till after birth. or they might just give you another medicine.
