How long for an external hemorrhoid to resolve / go away?

I did about 12 hours of flying on the last of 8 days of travel and suffered some irregularity during those 8 days. The day after returning was spent in the bathroom while my body got rid of everything. Now I have what appears to be an Thrombosed External Hemorrhoid.

It is about the size of a blueberry to view with the inside feeling about the size of a pea and very painful.

Is it possible for this to resolve on it’s own or will I need medical intervention.

  1. First try pushing the hemorrhoid back into the rectum. I know it sounds gross, but if you can get it back in (it might take several times), it might actually resolve by itself. Use a plastic or latex glove with lubricant like KY jelly. Once the inflamed vessel is back inside the rectum, you can use Anusol suppositories to help reduce the inflammation.

If you are still having trouble in a week or so, you will probably want to see a doctor and have it treated. If you go that route, your physician might chose to ligate (surgically pinch it off), inject it with steriods, or remove it by electrosurgery. The recovery time is pretty short if there is only one hemorrhoid and it isn’t very large.

  4. It will resolve on its own. But to help it along be sure to keep the area really clean. Go to the store and buy some unscented baby wipes. After using tissue clean yourself with the baby wipes as well. Since I have started using them I have the hemorrhoid less often. I suffer from external ones and know how painful they can be.

While at the store pick up some preparation H also, or same type of product. Name brand does not matter. use it to help shrink the hemorrhoid and calm the burning itchy feeling.

    Good Luck
