Sitz baths are great! That means a shallow amount of the hottest water you can stand in a bath. Sit in it. For some reason, it really relieves the pain (and itching).

Epsom salt baths work very well. It can also help soften them up and become less troublesome. When my husband had them, the doctor had him taking two 20 minute soaks per day when they were really annoying. After that, a couple of times per week should do. Also, take fiber supplements to make you as regular as possible so you’re not straining, because that will make them way worse.

Eat lots of fiber at least 36 grams.

I have had them, graduated to an anal fissure, so get the right meds now, cos it hurts and bleeds like f**k at that stage and sometimes needs surgery. i have seen a biker as tall as he was wide, covered in tattoos etc, the first crap he tried post surgery, he cried like a baby and then fainted.

On the more practical side. Get a surgical glove, fill the fingers with water about 2 inches or so, freeze. When frozen, insert carefully into your rectum and keep it there as long as you can. it’s no cure but man is it a relief!!!

You’ll probably want to take a stool softener daily for awhile until the swelling goes down. Hard stools just make the situation worse.

I also know that the natural supplement, Rutin, helps strengthen the walls of the tiny veins in that area. You can buy this supplement in any vitamin section or store – - – probably most likely at a GNC store. I used to take 100 mg. 2-3 times a day for a few days and it helped immensely, not only in treating them, but preventing them as well. But I’ve heard it is not recommended for pregnant women in the first trimester (anyone reading this, please check with your doctor on that first)
