Infrared coagulation, also known as coagulation therapy, is a medical procedure used to treat small to medium sized hemorrhoids. During this procedure, a skilled doctor uses an intense beam of infrared light on your hemorrhoid. This creates scar tissue, which cuts of the blood flow to the hemorrhoid, causing the hemorrhoid to eventually die. There are a lot of advantages to using this type of procedure rather than others, but there are also some disadvantages as well.

One advantage of infrared coagulation hemorrhoid treatment is the short length of time that the procedure takes, as well as the short recovery time. This means that infrared coagulation treatment is a relatively quick outpatient procedure. Also, there is no limit to the number of hemorrhoids that can be treated in one session.
