Old, non painful hemorrhoid?

I have some excess skin around my anus that is not painful, and I don’t recall it ever being painful. It’s about the size of a small peanut. I showed my doctor, who says it is probably a remnant of a very old hemorrhoid, and told me since is doesn’t bother me, the best course is just to leave it alone.
I would like to get rid of the skin. It’s annoying and hard to keep clean.

Most likely your doctor is correct. Unless it causes you discomfort, or bothers you from a cosmetic standpoint, then there would be no reason to put yourself in the situation of having an unnecessary procedure/surgery.

My one thought or piece of advice would be to go ahead and get a second opinion from another doctor, if possible a specialist (proctologist) would be the best. Just to make sure that the growth/lump/abnormality is in fact, something that is harmless and benign. Also I would ask what are the chances that you could have complications resulting in pain, discomfort, etc. later down the road, even if this is just an old hemorrhoid. That is something to consider as well, just because of the simple fact it is always better to have surgical procedures sooner rather than waiting until later when you are older and your risk for surgical complications goes up.

It sounds as though it’s a skin tag, which is the remnant of an old hemorrhoid. The only thing you’d want to watch out for is getting a hemorrhoid there again, which could happen if you strained too much on the toilet, ate a fiber-poor diet and didn’t get enough exercise.

go with the doctors words, dont try to strain more.unless you feel the problem from it,dont think of it.
