One thing I found useful in dealing with them was to use Preparation H in the early stages. Years later I had no choice but to have them removed by surgery which was something I sure wish I had done long, long ago. They were removed nearly 30 years ago, while others have developed since they have not become painful. My doctor told me of them, as they were not evident to me.
