Treat Internal Hemorrhoids
The initial treatment for the hemorrhoids is to get relief from the symptoms. You can get relief for internal hemorrhoids by using the following methods.
Sitz bath – In order to improve the blood circulation and reduce the swelling and pain in the affected part, you could take Sitz bath wherein you will sit in warm water covering your hips/ buttocks. This is a commonly used method for relieving hemorrhoids.
Ice Packs – If the hemorrhoids are severe, apply an icepack at the anal part.
Apply hemorrhoidal cream, petroleum jelly, cortisone cream, and suppositories on the affected areas.
Wear loose clothing and cotton underwear.
After every bowel movement, the anus must be cleaned with moist toilet paper.
Pain killers – These are used only to reduce itchiness and pain; they do not heal hemorrhoids.
Enemas – Having enema with plain warm water is useful for relieving the fecal impaction and constipation.Enema functions as a bowel stimulant.
OTC medications
Treatment of hemorrhoid using OTC medications is possible if it is in the early stages. Ointments, petroleum jellies, creams, and laxatives are commonly used medications. The well-known method is to apply hemorrhoids cream that has hydrocortisone and antiseptics.
The treatment carried out for internal hemorrhoids are as follows:
Rubber Band Ligation – is a non-surgical procedure wherein the circulation of the blood in the hemorrhoids is decreased by tying a rubber band over the inflamed hemorrhoids. This is a non-surgical procedure wherein a rubber band is tied on the tissue inflamed thereby reducing the blood flow.
Injection Sclerotherapy – In this method, a chemical solution is injected into the mucous membrane that is located nearer to the hemorrhoid. This chemical facilitates veins inflammation and closure and this shrinks the hemorrhoid.
Infrared Photocoagulation – is suitable for treating small/medium size hemorrhoids. Using an IR device, the surgeon applies IR heat on the hemorrhoids thereby coagulating the dilated veins. The coagulated blood vessels cuts off the blood flow and the hemorrhoids die.
Laser Coagulation – This technique is relatively new and in this treatment electric current is applied through the hemorrhoids. This new technique results in stopping the blood supply to the hemorrhoids which in turn causes the hemorrhoids to shrink.
Hemorrhoidectomy – It is a surgical procedure applied on the hemorrhoid groups. The hemorrhoid groups in the anal canal are surgically removed using a laser, scalpel or cautery device.
The above are just some ways to treat Hemorrhoids. Seek professional advice if you are going ahead with any of the above.
