You can start with your regualr family doctor; especially if your insurance requires you to have a referral to see a "specialist". Otherwise you should be able to see a general surgeon at your leisure. Remember, though, that surgery is your last resort....you should try to treat things conservatively first. And, also a note: Not all issues related to the anus/rectum are always hemorrhoids.....there are other possibilities such as a rectal fissure, a rectal fistula... But, only a trained specialist would be able to determine this upon examination. So go ahead and make an appointment, recetifying the situation may be easier than you think. If you can not afford a doctor see a pharmacist as they have over the counter medication and get more fiber in your diet as straining on a bowel movement causes severe pain.
